Grooming Program

A Step Above the Rest

The choice you make in selecting a pet grooming school is an important one. Getting adequate training and learning new techniques will make a difference in your experience as a professional pet groomer.

Midwest School of Pet Grooming is dedicated to providing students with the best hands-on instruction in Chicagoland. We utilize hands-on instruction from the beginning because we believe that nothing can replace actual grooming time. Instead of sitting in a classroom reading books about grooming, students will handle pets immediately as part of their training.

We also believe that an ongoing discussion during class is the best way to learn. From flea and tick control to specific breed nuances, all are discussed while the student is working on the pet.

Bathing and Scissoring Techniques

Students will learn traditional pet grooming techniques such as proper bathing and drying techniques as required by individual breeds.  They will also learn the art of the shear.  Scissoring is to pet groomers as the paintbrush is to painters.  Scissoring is an art that takes practice, and the student should prepare themselves for extensive training and exercising with scissors.  Students will learn basic hand stripping techniques as required for many popular breeds.

Program Fees

Students are expected to pay for program training and and grooming equipment as required by the school. The current progam cost is $4500 which includes 500-520 hours of learning.  Tools and other materials needed are estimated at $700-900 and can be purchased directly through MidwestGrooming.com.  View a list of the equipment needed.
